Let me introduce myself. My name is Sandra Ferguson. I have been involved in photography for a lifetime. I have specialized in pet photography for the past 20 years. Pets have been a huge part of my life.

Now, at 59 years old, don't get me started on my back and knee issues, Pet Photography is tough. I am no longer able to volunteer with animal rescue for adoption photos.

So, I will skip back to my past.

My mother, Myrtice Stringfellow was not only my Mom, but my best friend. Even when I got married my husband said you cannot run back to your Mom when something goes wrong! (I tried) She was my rock. Mom supported me in everything. She was my biggest encourager. She believed in everything I did or wanted to do. We went on vacations together. We shopped together. She was there...being the best Mom ever.

We noticed changes in Mom and her memory over the years. Finally in 2015 we admitted Mom to the hospital and she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and dementia. I quit working and focused on caregiving fulltime for Mom. (In the meantime, my pet photography business began to take off) .

I watched Mom as dementia was taking her further and further away from me. I believe Mom knew exactly who I was the entire time. Even though she didn't call me by my name.

Then in 2021 Mom was diagnosed with rectal cancer and it was aggressive. Especially for a frail 89 yr old little lady. Before Mom passed away in Oct 2021, some of her last words to me were, "I thought you forgot me". I told her I would never forget her.

Planning the funeral I realized I had a lot of cell phone shots or point & shoot vacation shots. I questioned myself so bad, "Why didn't I take recent studio shots of Mom". I didn't and the funeral home had to use a touched up cell phone shot for her large memorial photo (I still have it). Its the image above.

From 2021 to now

I have focused on my pet photography and helping rescue. Due to my own health issues with a broke disc in my back and bad knees. I can no longer volunteer my services for adoption photos for rescue.

Those close to me know I have had it on my heart to volunteer with the Alzheimer Association or the Cancer Society. I have reached out to them and they think it is a good idea also. To provide families newly diagnosed, with photographs.

Forget Me Not Photo Sessions

I think it is important to reach out to everyone over 60. (( I turn 60 this year! )) I always see young families hiring photographers for their family portraits. What about the parents, grandparents, great grandparents, great aunts and uncles? So many times families take photos and give them to their grandparents.

What if YOUR parents, YOUR grandparents, or anyone over 60 had their photos taken to give YOU as a gift to remember them forever.

Family photos are cherished. You do not know the value of those family photos until they are all you have left. (I know from experience).

If you are over 60 years old and STILL READING THIS DANG BLOG, you need a photo session! Give your family your photograph. It is so important to have good portraits made. Your family loves you and would cherish the images.

Also, if anyone has had a recent (current) diagnosis of dementia or cancer, please schedule a session. If you are a young family but parents have been diagnosed, please schedule a session for them. You always want to remember your loved one and not the disease.

Lastly, all of this is volunteer.

At the present moment I am strictly volunteering for 60+ individuals or couples, in honor of my Mom. I will select the individuals on a random basis. I have limited photo session times set aside.

I know that there are MANY photographers in Memphis, TN. I know there are MANY photographers in Memphis that are WAY better than me!! I know a bunch of those photographers personally. I know they are better!

I just want to be able to provide you with images from my heart to yours! If you choose another photographer, I totally understand. Your images will be great! But if you choose me as your photographer, I will do my best at providing wonderful photos and we might get in a few laughs for all of us.

I will have a private proof gallery that images can be purchased and/or downloaded. All prints must be purchased through my gallery. My computer is calibrated to the print lab and it is the only way I can guarantee images. Images start at 5x7 for $25.
